The Story of the Autograph
Felix Millan is a former second baseman in the major leagues. He played from 1966 to 1977 with the Atlanta Braves and the New York Mets. Then went to Japan to play with the Yokohama Taiyo Whales.
Millan, nicknamed “El Gatito” or “The Kitten,” was born and raised in Puerto Rico. He was originally signed by the Kansas City Athletics as an amateur free agen in 1964, but after the season he was Drafted by the Milwaukee Braves in the 1964 first-year draft. The Braves would move to Atlanta before his debut on June 2, 1966. He made three consecutive All-Star teams from 1969 to 1971 while with the Braves. In addition to that he won Gold Glove Awards in 1969 and 1972.
The Braves traded Millan to the New York Mets after the 1972 season and he would be part of a New York team that scrapped its way to the 1973 World Series. He would end up pulling in some MVP votes for that season, one of his better ones with a .290 average. He would stay with the Mets until 1977 and have a few more good seasons on what would be some OK teams, but he was out of New York when things really went downhill.
In 1978 he went to Japan and stayed there for three seasons after the Yokohama Taiyo Whales bought his contract. He won a batting title in 1979 when he his .346. He never played in his last season there and was released after the 1980 season.
The Score on Felix Millan – 5.0
There’s not much going for Felix on this card. There isn’t a great place to sign and he used a ball point pen. But he does have a pretty fancy looking signature. I have no doubles of him as a Met and I would really like to get one of him on my Metropolitans.
Thanks Mr. Millan! I’m giving this return a 5.
