The Story of the Autograph

Andy Stakiewicz is a former infielder in the major leagues. He played from 1992 through 1998 with the Yankees, Astros, Expos and Diamondbacks.

Stankiewicz, somewhat predictably nicknamed “Stanky”, was born and raised in the California and attended Pepperdine University. He was a great player for the Waves and ranks in the top ten in several career categories. He was drafted a few times before signing: by the Royals in the 26th round of the 1982 draft while in high school, by the Tigers in the 18th round of the 1985 draft while at Pepperdine, and in the 12th round of the 1986 draft after graduating from Pepperdine.

He played both middle infield positions while coming up and made his major league debut on April 11, 1992 after six years in the minors. In his rookie season he made it into a career high 116 games and never made it in more than 77 games in a season after that. He hit two homers with 25 RBI and had a .268 average that year. After appearing in only sixteen games the next year, he moved on to the Astros, Expos and Diamondbacks in free agency.

He went into coaching after his playing career was over. As a manager for the Staten Island Yankees he helped the team to a New York-Penn League title in 2005. From there he broke into the college ranks as an assistant with Arizona State. These days he is the head coach at Grand Canyon University.

Andy has a great signature and it came out really well on these cards. My favorite from a quality perspective is the 1993 Upper Deck card. But I have a fondness for the Triple Play card because his name is so big across the top of it. It’s just an interesting name that induces giggles (sorry Andy) and it’s fun to see it so big on the card.

Thanks Mr. Stankiewicz! I’m giving this return a 7.
