The Story of the Autograph
Tom Edens is a former right-handed relief pitcher in Major League Baseball. He played from 1987 through 1995 with the Mets, Brewers, Twins, Astros, Phillies and Cubs.
Edens is from Oregon and was originally drafted out of high school by the Reds in the 12th round of the 1979 MLB Draft. He chose not to sign and then was drafted again by the Royals in the 14th round of the 1983 MLB Draft out of Lew-Clark State College (in Idaho). He was traded to the Mets the next season and after a few more years in the minors he made his debut on June 2, 1987. He started two games that year and wouldn’t appear again in the majors until 1990.
Between his appearances with the Mets in 1987, and his next appearance in 1990, he was traded to the Phillies as part of the deal that sent Roger McDowell and Lenny Dykstra to the Phillies for Juan Samuel. Before he could appear for the Phillies he became a free agent and signed with the Brewers where he really got a shot and appeared in 35 games that season.
His best season? That would have to be 1992 when he went 6-3 with a 2.83 ERA in a career high 52 appearances.
The Score on Tom Edens – 6.5
Tom has a nice signature and I really like the curl in his “T”. I don’t have a lot of autographs that I can think of with a great capital “E” in them them and I like his. The best card of this lot is the 1991 Topps card by far. That card just gives the autograph the best chance to shine of all of these. In the end it’s a sort of simple but fancy signature along the lines of Danny Darwin.
