The Story of the Autograph
Paul Konerko is a former first baseman who played in Major League Baseball from 1997 through 2014. While he started out with the Dodgers and Reds, the vast majority of his career was spent in Chicago with the White Sox (1999-2014).
Paul was born in Providence, RI but went to high school in Scottsdale, AZ. He led his team to a state championship. He still holds a record or two but some of those were broken by Ike Davis. He was slated to play at Arizona State but the Dodgers drafted him in the first round of the 1994 MLB Draft with the 13th overall pick.
After two trades, Konerko made it to the White Sox and the rest was history. Konerko would make the All-Star team six times, win the 2005 ALCS MVP en route to winning the World Series and won the Roberto Clemente award in 2014.
It’s hard to pick his best year overall. He hit over .300 four times and over .290 seven times. From 1999 through 2012 he hit over 20 homers every year except one (2003). And to take that further, he hit over 30 homers seven times and topped 40 twice. As for RBI, he broke the 100 RBI barrier six times and had a career high of 117 in 2004.
The Score on Paul Konerko – 6.0
This one is a bit of a challenge. I’m treating it not as real, but as something I received. I think this is known to be what some refer to as “secretarial” meaning someone else signs it for him. I think I’ve seen someone say it’s his Dad that does it. This probably happens more than we want to think.
Thanks Mr. Konerko (?)! I’m giving this one a 6.
