The Story of the Autograph
Desmond Clark played tight end in the NFL for 12 years with the Denver Broncos, Miami Dolphins and Chicago Bears. He’s best known to me as a Bear where he spent 2003 through 2010. He went to Wake Forest where he played at wide receiver. He was a two-time All-ACC selection and two-time team MVP. He even finished his career as the all-time leading ACC receiver with 216 receptions for 2800+ yards and 20 touchdowns.
The Broncos would draft Clark in the sixth round of the 1999 NFL Draft and converted him to tight end. However, he was fourth on the depth chart while they had Shannon Sharpe, Dwayne Carswell, and Byron Chamberlain. The Broncos released him after three years and he moved on to Miami for a year. From there he joined the Bears.
While with the bears he was a Pro Bowl alternate in 2005. Then in 2006 he was part of the team that made it to Super Bowl XLI against Peyton Manning and the Indianapolis Colts. That year he had 626 yards, 45 catches and six touchdowns. But a few years later another tight end would take his played time away – Greg Olson. He hurt his back in the 2009 season and after a coaching change in 2010 his role diminished even more. But when he left the bears he was second all-time in tight end receptions to only Mike Ditka.
The Score on Desmond Clark – 7.5
Unfortunately I only had one card of Desmond’s. He has a great signature and he signs nice and big on the card. There’s a little skip in the loop for his “k” but that just gives it character. As with any card for guys in dark jerseys, that gets in the way a little bit. But overall I like the size and it’s good quality. I’m really glad I started using the eraser on cards before sending them out because I’m sure this would not have been good without that. These old Upper Deck cards usually don’t take a signature great without that.
Thanks Mr. Clark! This one gets a 7.5.
