The Story of the Autograph
Adam LaRoche’s journey through Major League Baseball (MLB) is a compelling narrative of athletic prowess, personal conviction, and a life dedicated to values beyond the diamond.
Born on November 6, 1979, in Orange County, California, Adam LaRoche was immersed in baseball from an early age. His father, Dave LaRoche, was a two-time MLB All-Star pitcher, and his brother, Andy LaRoche, also played in the majors. Adam honed his skills at Fort Scott High School in Kansas and later at Seminole State College in Oklahoma, where he earned All-American honors and was named the Most Valuable Player of the Junior College World Series.
Drafted by the Atlanta Braves in 2000, LaRoche debuted in the majors on April 7, 2004. Over 12 seasons, he played for several teams, including the Braves, Pittsburgh Pirates, Boston Red Sox, Arizona Diamondbacks, Washington Nationals, and Chicago White Sox. Known for his left-handed power hitting and solid defense at first base, LaRoche compiled a career batting average of .260, with 255 home runs and 882 RBI.
His standout season came in 2012 with the Nationals, where he achieved career highs with 33 home runs and 100 RBIs, earning both a Gold Glove and Silver Slugger Award.
In 2016, during spring training with the White Sox, LaRoche made headlines by retiring abruptly, walking away from a $13 million contract. The decision stemmed from a dispute over his 14-year-old son, Drake, who had been a constant presence in the clubhouse—a condition reportedly agreed upon when LaRoche signed with the team. When team management requested that Drake’s visits be limited, LaRoche chose to prioritize family over baseball.
Post-retirement, LaRoche channeled his energy into philanthropy and entrepreneurship. He co-founded the E3 Ranch Foundation, focusing on combating human trafficking and supporting veterans. Additionally, he became a co-owner of Buck Commander, a hunting brand and television show, alongside celebrities like Willie Robertson, Luke Bryan, and Jason Aldean.
Adam LaRoche’s career is a testament to the idea that success isn’t solely defined by statistics or accolades. His decision to leave the game at the peak of his earning potential underscored a dedication to personal values and family. Through his post-baseball endeavors, LaRoche continues to make a meaningful impact, embodying a life led with purpose and integrity.
The Score on Adam LaRoche – 9
Adam has one of my favorite signatures. I think he always does a great job on your cards. I love how it almost looks like he signs backwards and I think I’ve wondered before if that is because he left-handed. The one thing you need to know going in to a request for him is that he signs one card.
Thanks Mr. LaRoche! I’m giving this return a 9!
This is my fifth successful return from him. To see the other returns, check out these posts:
