The Story of the Autograph

Blair Thomas played at the running back position in the NFL with four teams over a six year career. He’s best known for his time with the Jets from 1990 through 1993, but in 1994 he spent time with the Cowboys and the Patriots and then in 1995 he spent time with the Panthers. I should revise that statement a bit, he is probably best know for his success at Penn State. That helped him to being a high draft pick and ultimately a bit of a disappointment in New York.

Blair played for the Nittany Lions from 1986 through 1989. In 1986 he was a backup on their National Championship team and had 500+ yards and five touchdowns. He follow that up with a 1400+ yard and 11 touchdown year as a sophomore. His junior season was lost to reconstructive knew surgery, but he came back strong as a senior. He started slowly in the first six games and the rushed for 100 yards in six straight games to end the season with 1300+ yards and five touchdowns. He was the Holiday Bowl MVP and the Senior Bowl MVP. He was the first player in school history to have two seasons with 1300+ yards.

All that success had him pegged as a high draft pick. He was chosen second overall by the Jets and started off as part of a four-man backfield with Freeman McNeil, Johnny Hector, and Brad Baxter. He led all NFL rookies in yards per carry that first year after posting 620 yards on only 123 carries. He was part of the same four-headed monster of a backfield in year two when his carries increased. Year three saw him only play nine games because of injury. His injury woes continued the next year and he ultimately left as a free agent.

The Score on Blair Thomas – 5.0

This isn’t my first Blair Thomas signature, but my other wasn’t via TTM and it wasn’t recent. Almost 30 years ago now I got an IP signature at an auto show at Nassau Coliseum on Long Island. I actually got a Wesley Walker and an Al Toon IP signature at the same time. I actually feel like these are better signatures from a style perspective, but the marker quality doesn’t look great and it definitely knocks down the score.

Thanks Mr. Thomas! I’m giving these a 5.
