The Story of the Autograph
Van Snider, born on August 11, 1963, in Birmingham, Alabama, had a brief career in Major League Baseball (MLB), primarily playing as an outfielder for the Cincinnati Reds. After excelling at Shades Valley High School and later attending Gadsden State Junior College, Snider signed with the Kansas City Royals in 1981 as an amateur free agent. However, his major league debut came years later, after a trade that sent him to the Cincinnati Reds in exchange for pitcher Jeff Montgomery in 1988.
Snider played parts of two seasons with the Reds in 1988 and 1989, appearing in 19 games. His time in the majors was short-lived, with a career batting average of .200, one home run, and six RBIs. His defensive skills in the outfield were solid, though, as he committed no errors and maintained a perfect fielding percentage during his time with the Reds.
After his MLB stint, Snider was traded to the New York Yankees but never returned to the major league level, instead spending several more years playing in the minor leagues and internationally, including stints in Mexico until 1995. Following his baseball career, Snider transitioned to a different path, becoming a police detective in Mayfield Heights, Ohio, where he rose to the rank of corporal. He remains active in his community, working in law enforcement and drug enforcement initiatives .
The Score on Van Snider – 7.0
It looks to me like there’s two different styles within Van’s signature. His first name looks a bit standard. His last name like a bit of a different style. I denfitely like it. His “S” looks pretty cool and then he has this really condensed and loopy.
Thanks Mr. Snyder! I’m giving this return a 7.
