The Story of the Autograph

Haywoode Workman is a former guard in the NBA. He played for the Atlanta Hawks, Washington Bullets, Indiana Pacers, Milwaukee Bucks, and Toronto Raptors from 1989 to 2000. He also played overseas.

Workman was born and raised in Charlotte, North Carolina. He went to college at Winston-Salem State for one year and then moved on to Oral Roberts University where he finished out his college years. He still hold records at the school and is a member of their Hall of Fame. The Atlanta Hawks then selected him with the 49th pick in the second round of the 1989 NBA Draft.

He didn’t spend much time with the Hawks though. They would cut him after just six games and he played in the CBA and World Basketball League with the Illinois Express that season after one more 10-day contract with Atlanta. He went to the Bullets the following season.

In 1991 he moved to Italy and played for the Italian League champions Scavolini Pesaro. After two years with them he got back to the NBA with the Pacers and was part of their first trip to the Eastern Conference Finals. He became a very good back up to Mark Jackson while in Indiana and was a big part of the teams success. In 1996 he tore his ACL and missed some of that season and the next. It also impacted the rest of his career.

He bounced around a bit more and ended his playing days in Israel with Hapoel Jerusalem.

The Score on Haywoode Workman – 6.5

I really like it when people who sign switch up markers to go with the cards. Even better when they go outside to black and blue box to do it. Haywoode did that on this return and it’s awesome. I’m not a big fan of those Wild Card cards, but I think that’s a definite improvement on that. I also like that I have him as a Pacer because that’s how I remember him.

Thanks Mr. Workman! I’m giving this return a 6.5 overall.
