The Story of the Autograph

Laveranues Coles is a former wide receiver in the NFL. He played form 2000 to 2009 with the New York Jets (twice), Washington Redskins, and Cincinnati Bengals.

Coles was born and raised in Jacksonville, Florida. He played basketball and ran track in high school in addition to playing football. He was All-State and part of a state championship team as a senior. He went on to Florida State. While he had a good career there, all that was overshadowed by a shoplifting incident and other legal troubles he had. That didn’t stop the Jets from drafting him with a third round pick in the 2000 NFL Draft.

He had a really great third season in New York. That year he caught 89 passes for 1,264 yards, a career high. He also had five touchdowns. He moved on to Washington the following year and had another great season of just over 1,200 yards. This time he earned a Pro Bowl nod.

He was traded back to the Jets in 2005 for Santana Moss. He went through some struggles in his first year back but then was back to having strong seasons in his second year back to New York. He moved on to Cincinnati with the Bengals in 2009, but was released the following year. He tried to make it back again with the Jets and Patriots but would never play in another NFL game.

This is an era where I really don’t have a lot of football cards from. I think I might have actually happened upon this card in a repack of football cards possibly. I like that this card almost has a place to sign because of the fade on the bottom. I also like that he fills up the card pretty well, even though there isn’t all that much to his signature.

Thanks Mr. Coles! I’m giving this return a 7.
