The Story of the Autograph

Pat Pacillo is a former right-handed pitcher in the major leagues. He pitched in the majors in just two seaons, 1987 and 1988, and played for the Cincinnati Reds.

Pacillo is a native of New Jersey. He played both football and baseball in high school. He then went on to play for Seton Hall. He was drafted from there by the Reds with the fifth overall pick in the first round of the 1984 MLB Draft. That summer he played in the 1984 Olympics with Will Clark, Barry Larkin, Mark McGwire, BJ Surhoff, Bill Swift and Bobby Witt. The team would earn a silver medal after losing to Japan in the final.

He made his major league debut on May 23, 1987. But in the two years he played he bounced up and down between the majors and minors. His first season he went 3-3 in twelve games with seven starts and a 6.13 ERA. He went 1-0 in six games (no starts), but his era remained high at 5.06. He was traded with Tracy Jones to the Expos for Randy St. Claire, Jeff Reed, and Herm Winningham. He never played in the majors again.

Pat has a pretty fancy signature. He also is another example of someone doing different things on each card. He personalized on with a message and the other he just signed. But you can see he also used two different markers. Maybe he signed that 1988 card and decided the thin marker wasn’t cutting it and switched.

Thanks Mr. Pacillo! I’m giving this return a 6 overall.
