The Story of the Autograph

Johnny Damon is a former outfielder in the major leagues. He played form 1995 to 2012 with the Kansas City Royals, Oakland Athletics, Boston Red Sox, New York Yankees, Detroit Tigers, Tampa Bay Rays, and Cleveland Indians.

Damon was born in Kansas but grew up an “Army brat” so spent time in a lot of places including in Japan and Germany. But he mostly grew up in Florida and played football as well as baseball in high school, one time being hit by Warren Sapp. He was drafted by his Kansas City Royals in the first round of the 1993 MLB Draft and three years later made his debut on August 12, 1995.

He spent the first season in Kansas City. He got better and better every year and really started coming into his own in the last half of his time with the Royals. The Royals moved him to the Athletics in a three way trade including AJ Hinch and Roberto Hernandez. He spent one season in Oakland and was part of the good Oakland team the year before the season that Moneyball was set in.

From there he moved on to Boston as a free agent. He had some of his best years in in Bean Town. He made his only All-Star games in 2002 and 2005 and was part of the Red Sox team that broke the curse in 2004. However, just a couple years later he moved on… to the Yankees. He would win another World Series with them in 2009. He would finish his career skipping to the Tigers, Rays, and Indians.

The Score on Johnny Damon – 8.5

These are really great returns from Johnny. I think it helps that he’s in the uniforms of two teams that he had some of the most team success with. But I also don’t think it’s too bad that it’s these cards. From a “special” card perspective (by that I just mean a card that isn’t just an image based card) that SP Authentic card is right up my alley. But of course Stadium Club cards have amazing images and that’s a great image to get signed.

Thanks Mr. Damon! I’m giving this return a 8.5.
