The Story of the Autograph
Jim Norris is a former outfielder in the major leagues. He played from 1977 to 1980 with the Cleveland Indians and Texas Rangers.
Norris is a native of Brooklyn, New York. He was selected three times before he was signed by a team. The first was in 1967 while he was still in high school. The White Sox took him in the 31st round of the MLB Draft that year. He went on to the University of Maryland to play for the Terps. He was then dfated by the Reds in the second round of the 1970 MLB Draft but still didn’t sign. Cleveland than selected him in the 1971 Secondary-Phase and he signed with them.
He made his major league debut for them six years later on April 7, 1977. He played in a career high 1933 games in his rookie season. His best season was his second season in 1978. That year in 113 games he put up a .283 average with two homers, 27 RBI, 12 stolen bases and five triples. He played another full season in Cleveland before they traded him to the Rangers with David Clyd for Gary Gray, Larry McCall and a minor league.
He didn’t put up any close to the number he had in Cleveland and was moved down to the minors. After a year in Wichita in 1981 he decided to retire.
The Score on Jim Norris – 7.5
Jim has a somewhat standard signature. The marker he used on these was great and it cuts through any images on this card. It really sticks out well in person. I think I like the 1978 Topps card even though that one is a bit more beat up.
Thanks Mr. Norris! I’m giving this return a 7.5.
