The Story of the Autograph

Dave Meier is a former outfielder in the major leagues. He played from 1984 to 1988 with the Minnesota Twins, Texas Rangers, and Chicago Cubs.

Meier was born in Montana and grew up in California. He went on to Fresno City College and then Stanford University to play baseball. He was drafted three times before signing with a big league club. The first time was out of high school by the California Angels in the 31st round of the 1977 MLB Draft. He was then chosen the Cardinals in the third round of the 1978 MLB Draft while he was at Fresno City College. Finally he signed with the Twins after being drafted in the fifth round of the 1981 MLB Draft while he was at Stanford.

He got his best shot with the Twins in 1984 and 1985. He made his major league debut on April 3, 1984 and played in 59 games that season. But he never played more than the 71 games he got into the following season. That was probably his best year as he hit .260 with his only career home run and eight RBI.

After 1985 he was released by the Twins and then picked up by the Rangers. He made it into a few games for them and was traded to the Cubs in 1988 and made it into a few games with the Cubs too.

This return from Dave is a little bit of a theme that have been getting in recent years. I have some guys that only have one or two cards floating out there that I am trying to get signed. While I am not attempting to get a whole set signed, it’s not something that’s out of the question and you have to find guys like this. Unfortunately on this one he is signing over a really dark uniform.

Thanks Mr. Meier! I’m giving this return a 6.5.
