The Story of the Autograph

Tyler Houston is a former third baseman and catcher in the major leagues. He played in eight seasons from 1996 to 2003. During that period he played for the Atlanta Braves, Chicago Cubs, Cleveland Indians, Milwaukee Brewers, Los Angeles Dodgers and Philadelphia Phillies.

Houston was born and raised in Las Vegas, Nevada. He was drafted out of high school by the Braves with the second overall pick in the first round of the 1989 MLB Draft. After several years in the minor leagues he made his major league debut on April 3, 1996. He wouldn’t play in Atlanta for that first full year though. In June of that year the Braves traded him to the Cubs for Ismael Villegas. He played in 79 games total in that first season and hit .317.

He spent several years in Chicago with his best full season there being 1998 when he played in 95 games and his .255 with nine homers and 33 RBI. He moved on to Cleveland via trade the following year and that started a bit more moving around for the rest of his career, aside from two-plus years in Milwaukee.

His best year was his first in Milwaukee when he had career highs in homers (18) and RBI (43) and hit .250 in 101 games.

The Score on Tyler Houston – 6.5

I really love the top to Tyler’s “T”. It’s as much the placement of it as it is the curve. It’s sits so high up above the rest of the letters. In fact it’s almost like the way he is wearing his hat in the 1990 Score card. I think my favorite of this bunch is the 1991 Classic card though. You can see the signature well and the image is a bit more interesting than the others.

Thanks Mr. Houston! I’m giving this return a 6.5.
