The Story of the Autograph
Chris Knapp is a former right0handed pitcher in the major leagues. He played from 1975 to 1980 with the Chicago White Sox and California Angels.
Knapp is a native of North Carolina. He grew up in Michigan though and after high school attended Central Michigan University. From there he was drafted by the White Sox with the eleventh overall pick in the first round of the 1975 MLB Draft. He made it to the majors that same year and played in his first game on September 4th 1975.
He wouldn’t really make it to the majors full time until his third season, 1977. That year he put up a 12-7 record in 27 games with 26 starts and a 4.80 ERA. He was then traded after the season with Brian Downing and Dave Frost to the Angels for Bobby Bonds, Richard Dotson and Thad Bosley. He continued his winning ways the next season and won 14 games with eight losses. He started 29 of the 30 games he played in with a 4.21 ERA.
Unfortunately he would never have another winning season and played two more years before he was sent back down to the minors in 1981. He would play there until 1983 when he went winless in four starts and called it a career.

Chris has a pretty standard signature. I think it looks best on that 1979 card for a couple reasons, for one, there’s no facsimile signature and that’s always better. But more importantly, there’s no big dark collar to have to sign over. Man, that is a pretty fiercely 70’s uniform for the White Sox.
