The Story of the Autograph

Kurt Rambis is a former player and coach in the NBA. He played from 1980 to 1995 first in Greece and then in the NBA with the Lakers (twice), Hornets, Suns, and Kings. He later coached, mostly as an assistance with the Lakers, Minnesota Timberwolves and New York Knicks.

Rambis was born in Indiana but grew up in California. He went on to play for the Santa Clara Broncos in college where he became the second leading rebounder and all-time leading scorer. He was the conference Freshman of the Year and later Player of the Year as a senior. The Knicks drafted him in the third round of the 1980 NBA Draft but he was waived prior to playing for them. He then played a season in Greece where his team AEK Athens won the Greek Cup.

The Knicks resigned him but he still never played a game for them. He went on to the Los Angeles Lakers and was part of the “Showtime” years through 1988 when the Lakers won four championships. He was an all-out effort player wherever he was and was a good defender and rebounder. After the Lakers had short stints in Charlotte, Phoenix and Sacramento before returning to the Lakers and retiring in 1995.

As as an assistant coach he’s been part of two championship winning teams and as an executive he was part of three more, all of those being with the Lakers.

The Score on Kurt Rambis – 6.0

These came out surprisingly well, including that 1990 Skybox card. That set is just hard for anything to come out good because of all the black on the card. I really need to get a card of Kurt in a Laker uniform so I can send him one of those because that’s how I really think of him. I just don’t have a lot of basketball cards from the years he was a Laker.

Thanks Mr. Rambis! I’m giving this return a 6 overall.
