The Story of the Autograph

Dave Rajsich is a former left-handed pitcher in the major leagues. He played from 1978 to 1980 with the New York Yankees and Texas Rangers. He would later play in Japan with the Hiroshima Toyo Carp in 1984 and then in the Senior Professional Baseball League with the St. Petersburgh Pelicans.

Rajsich was born Youngstown, Ohio, but went to high school in Phoenix, Arizona. He would played college baseball at Phoenix College and then the University of Arizona. He was never drafted, but signed as an amateur free agent with the New York Yankees in 1974. He made his major league debut for them on July 2, 1978.

He only pitched in four games for the Yankees in that 1978 season. In November of that year he was traded with Mike Heath, Sparky Lyle, Larry McCall, and Domingo Ramos to the Texas Rangers for Juan Beniquez, Mike Griffin, Paul Mirabella, Dave Righetti and a minor leaguer. He played for the Rangers for the next two years as a reliever before they traded him to the Phillies for Ramon Aviles, but he never appeared in another major league game.

His nickname was “The Blade” for how tall and skinny he is the brother of Gary Rajsich who also played in the majors. When they both played in the Senior League they played on the same team together.

Dave has a pretty standard signature. The think blue marker came out really well on these though. I wonder if he takes signing as seriously as he takes these pictures. He sure looks like he would do a great job in a staring contest and would definitely beat me.

Thanks Mr. Rajsich! I’m giving this return a 6.5.
