Raise your hand if you are getting your free Slurpee tomorrow! Do they still do that? I have no idea but we were joking about it all week at work and it’s carried over into my weekend.
Yesterday was Keith Hernandez day at Citi Field and they retired his number 17 for the ball club. It was a cool ceremony (I think all fans of teams like their team’s ceremonies so I know I’m biased). But it was really great and then the way the Mets one the game and everything it was pretty fitting that it was that way for an ’86 Met. Although I think I could hear Keith sighing at the errors.
It was also interesting that they were playing the Marlins with Don Mattingly over in the other dugout managing the Fish. It was definitely great having those two in New York during some of their great seasons. It also makes you think about if either of them will make the Hall of Fame. I personally think that both should be in, but I also understand people with arguments against “the Hall of Very Good”. But I think it’s really hard to think about stats when you are judging them from another time.
Still, I’ll be crossing my fingers for both to get in at some point.
Hope you are all having a great weekend!
The Review
Here’s what happened on the blog last week:
- Monday: Sammie Smith
- Tuesday: Sam Ewing, Bruce Berenyi
- Wednesday: Jim Gott, June 2022 TTM Report
- Thursday: Jim Dombrowski
- Friday: Bert Blyleven
- Saturday: Andy Benes, Keith Hernandez
- Sunday: Ken Dayley
I didn’t have any themes this week but I probably could have had a couple, at least for the #twofortuesday. I had two “Sam” guys and I had two Blue Jays. I did have to “surprise” posts. First, I was able to get the June 2022 report put together and it was nice to see things turn around last month. I also got a Keith Hernandez post out from the backlog on Saturday for his jersey retirement ceremony.
The Preview
Here’s what I have coming up for this week:
- Monday: Get to know Charlie…
- Tuesday: Double D…
- Tuesday: Walkin’ in the Meadows…
- Wednesday: Love the “Z” signatures…
- Thursday: Mr. Anderson…
- Friday: Everybody in the club gettin’ Tippy…
- Saturday: Ed-ucation…
- Sunday: Tony the White Sock…
Oh wow – a theme. For the #twofortuesday this week we’re headed to San Diego and looking at some Padres.
Other Notes
Sixteen returns for a short week is not too bad at all. What’s kind of funny to me that it came in pretty much two days. Aside from one return and one failure, it was all on either Tuesday or Friday of this week. The only straggler was my failure. Bob Dernier returned without signing after 492 days. I wonder if he has started charging maybe? Nothing else was over 94 days.

Have a great week!
