The Story of the Autograph
Tom Tellmann is a former right-handed relief pitcher in the major leagues. He played during five seasons between 1979 and 1985 with the San Diego Padres, Milwaukee Brewers and Oakland Athletics.
Tellmann was born in Pennsylvania. He went on to attend the University of Nevada and Grand Canyon University from where he was drafted by the Padres in the eleventh round of the 1976 MLB Draft. He went on to make his major league debut three years later on June 9, 1976. He played played in just the one game that year, pitched 2.2 innings and gave up seven hits and five runs to have a 16.88 ERA. He’d go back down to the minors and appear in six games the following season and and up with two starts, a 3-0 record and a 1.61 ERA.
He wouldn’t appear in the majors again until 1983. The Padres traded him after the 1982 season to the Brewers for Tim Cook and Weldon Swift, both minor leaguers. He spent the next two years in Milwaukee and would appear in 94 games with a 15-7 record and 2.79 ERA before being release. He played eleven more games with the A’s in 1985 before being released by them.
The Score on Tom Tellmann – 6.5
Tom has a pretty standard style of signature bordering on a little fancy. It’s at least neat. I love his “Ts” and the little tail that kind of gets on the front of them. I think the best of them is the 1981 Topps card. Usually I don’t think those multi-player cards lend themselves to that but he did a really good job fitting it in there.
Thanks Mr. Tellmann! I’m giving this return a 6.5.
