The Story of the Autograph

Jaime Navarro is a former right-handed starting pitcher in the major leagues. He played from 1989 to 2001 with the Milwaukee Brewers (twice), Chicago Cubs, Chicago White Sox and Cleveland Indians.

Navarro was born and raised in Puerto Rico. He was first drafted out of Miami Dade College by the Baltimore Orioles in both the 1986 January Regular Phase and then in the June Secondary Phase in the same year, both times in the second round. He chose not to sign. The next year the Brewers came calling and drafted him in the third round and he signed with them. He spent two years in the minors before debuting on June 20, 1989.

Over the next six years he would become a pretty good pitcher for the Brewers. In 1991 and 1992 he put up records of 15-12 and 17-11 respectively, both with mid to high 3 ERAs. His record went a bit sound over the next two seasons with the Brewers and he moved on to the Cubs as a free agent. He had two great seasons with them, the best probably being 1995 when he went 14-6 with a 3.28 ERA in 29 starts.

He moved on to the Cubs in 1997 and unfortunately his career would start to go downhill a bit. He didn’t have a winning record again even as he moved back to the Brewers and then to the Indians. After his time in the majors he went on to play in Italy. He won 18 games with a 1.76 ERA for Bbc Grosseto and helped them with the 2005 Italian League and then played in the European Champions League. The team won it in 2005 with Navarro as the MVP. A bike accident took him out of playing in the second half of 2005 but he came back the next season.

In more recent years he coached in the minor leagues and in Mexico. Recently he’s been coaching in China.

Jaime has an awesome lean and angle to his signature and it has a ton of action. These cards do a great job of showing it off and the blue looks really awesome with those Brewer’s uniforms. I think my favorite of these might be the 1993 Upper Deck. Those cards just take a signature really well and this one is no different.

Thanks Mr. Navarro! I’m giving this return a 7 overall.
