The Story of the Autograph
Doug Henry is a former right-handed closer and relief pitcher in the major leagues. His career spanned from 1991 to 2001 and during that time he played for the Milwuakee Brewers, New York Mets, San Francisco Giants (twice), Houston Astros, and Kansas City Royals.
Henry was born and raised in California. He was first drafted out of high school by the Mets in the sixteenth round of the 1982 MLB Draft, but didn’t sign. Three years later the Brewers signed him out of Arizona State in the eighth round of the 1985 MLB Draft. He made his major league debut with them several years later on July 15, 1991.
After joining the team midway through his first year, he went almost right into the closer role. In his first three seasons he put up at least 15 saves including a career high 29 in his second year in the league. That year he appeared in 68 games with a 1-4 record and 4.02 ERA. Before leaving the Brewers he would be out of the closer role but would close some games throughout the rest of his career, but not topping 9 again.
He was traded to the Mets for what would eventually be Javier Gonzalez and Fernando Vina. After two years with them he was released and then bounced around a bit except for a two and half year stint in Houston.
After his time in the big leagues he went into coaching. He was the pitching coach in the minors in the Atlanta organization first and then later on in the majors with the Giants and Astros, both teams he had previously played for.
The Score on Doug Henry – 7.0
Doug has three loops that look alike in his name. I really like when there’s some repetition in a signature like that. Or at least some kind of little feature like that to make a signature stick out. Most of these came out really well but there are a few smudges. I think part of that is because that blue marker looks great with the Brewers uniforms.
Thanks Mr. Henry! I’m giving this return a 7.
