What kind of Halloween family/people are you all? On a scale of 1-to-10, what do you do? Are you a 1 which is not even turning your lights on for trick-or-treaters? Or are you a full-on 10 and build a haunted house or have a party or something like that?
I’m pretty much in the middle. We decorate outside the house with just some lights and blow up characters, some pumpkins and stuff. And we take the trick-or-treaters, but I’ve found over the years I’ve tried to find ways to get either more efficient or more lazy about it. I guess which depends on your perspective.
Getting up to answer the door became just sitting out on the porch to drop candy in bags. Then that started to get to handfuls of candy because the quicker its gone the quicker I go inside. What we are going back to this year is a little more of a party. We’re getting out the fire pit, roasting hot dogs and marshmallows, then putting a table out with candy. The kids can pick up their own bag.
Hopefully some neighbors come over and hang out. What we’ve done in the past is line all our candy up and then its a one stop shop for multiple houses. The kids get a ton of candy and we get to hang out. Most times kids seem to end up wanting a marshmallow instead of candy anyway. This year I plan to add moving the decorations out to that area and I can clean it all up at the same time!
Enjoy your Halloween and stay safe!
The Review
Here’s what happened on the blog last week:
- Monday: Tim Pyznarski
- Tuesday: Jesse Orosco, Kevin McReynolds
- Wednesday: Billy Ashley
- Thursday: Junior Kennedy, Card Thoughts: 1990-91 Score Hockey – Take the Red Line or the Blue Line
- Friday: Mark Wagner
- Saturday: Bill Long
- Sunday: Ruben Amaro
No theme this week but there was a theme to the #twofortuesday and it was all Mets. That was just about the right time of year for the anniversary of the ’86 World Series Championship. Unfortunately (for me anyway) the last they won. Basically a lot of catch up last week. But I did get in another Card Thoughts post, and I’m pretty proud of myself for doing so.
The Preview
Here’s what I have coming up for this week:
- Monday: Ay Yo Paulie…
- Tuesday: Thiss Guyy…
- Tuesday: Two names, said together, sounds like one…
- Wednesday: Hammond rye…
- Thursday: Bailes of hay…
- Friday: Strike a Pose…
- Saturday: A last name that sounds like what we should call it when you are congested…
- Sunday: Greg Olson Blues…
This week will be another week with no theme. I’m working building some fun ones up. Hopefully they will be fun anyway, they are fun to put together. The #twofortuesday will be “Sox” themed this time around.
Other Notes
This was my best week ever! I had 30 returns this week. I think in the past I’ve had MONTHS when I was happy with that number of returns. Now that’s I’ve done it in a week that sounds crazy. My plan for next year was to slow down, but honestly when things are like this its really hard to go back to sending out less (and then getting less). Hopefully I can force myself to do it so I can work on some other new things.
There were two stragglers this week: Todd Jones and Billy Butler. Jones was out for 620 days and Butler was out for 497. I was glad to get both because I hadn’t gotten them back before. In addition to that there was one coach/manager return from Scott Servais. It seems he was signing things he got during the season. Other favorites that came back were Bill Gullickson, Juan Berenguer, Steve Wilson, Warren Moon, Gary Fencik, Steve Trachsel, Doug Lidster, Don Stanhouse, Roy Jefferson, Doug West, and Billy Ray Smith. The best part about the list of all those, I think it covered all the sports I send out for.
Have a great week!
