The Story of the Autograph
Paul Mirabella is a former left-handed pitcher in the major leagues. He played from 1978 to 1990 with the Texas Rangers (twice), New York Yankees, Toronto Blue Jays, Baltimore Orioles, Seattle Mariners and Milwaukee Brewers.
Mirabella was born and raised in New Jersey. He went to high school in Parsippany and then went to Montclair State University. He was first drafted by the Minnesota Twins in the 16th round of the 1975 MLB Draft but never signed. Then the Rangers drafted him in the first round of the 1976 MLB Draft with the 21st overall pick and he signed with them. He made his major league debut with the Rangers on July 28, 1978.
He appeared in 10 games twice for the Rangers and then the Yankees in 1978 and 1978 but he got his first real shot with the Blue Jays in 1980 when he appeared in 33 games with 22 starts. He got to the Blue Jays via trades involving first Dave Righetti, Mike Heath, Sparky Lyle and Dave Rajisch and then Chris Chambliss, Damaso Garcia, Rick Cerone and Tom Underwood among others. That would really be his best shot at being a starter and after putting up a 5-12 record with a 4.34 ERA, he was pretty much a reliever for the rest of his career.
He didn’t really get consistent playing time and appearances for a lot of his career, but things changed a bit while with Milwaukee from 1987 to 1990. He put up probably his best year in 1988 with a 2-2 record and 1.65 ERA in 38 relief appearances.
The Score on Paul Mirabella – 7.0
I like when people add extra little elements to their signature and Paul has two. First he and the “M” in an underline for his last name and then he swings around that little “a” at the end. Those two things together really add an extra element to what he’s doing. All of these came out really well but I think my favorites are the 1985 and 1983 Topps. I do like that I got him on a lot of different teams in these cards.
Thanks Mr. Mirabella! I’m giving this return a 7 overall.
