The Story of the Autograph
Brian Dayett played as an outfielder in the major leagues for the Yankees and Cubs from 1983 though 1987. In 1988 he went over to Japan and played for the Hokkaido Nippon-Ham Fighters for four years after that.
Dayett has some great years in the minors. In 1982 he hit 32 home runs for the Double-A Nashville Sounds and won the Southern League MVP. He added a Southern League championship with the team on a walk-off homer. In 1983 he moved up to Triple-A and hit 35 home runs and had 108 RBI for the Columbus Clippers. He was a September call up that same year for the Yankees. After the next season he was traded to the Cubs.
In 1987 he would have been the starting right fielder if not for The Hawk. That’s right, Andre Dawson was sign as a free agent and took the position, leaving Dayett as a reserve. He was largely used as a pinch hitter and defensive replacement (he only committed one error over his career).
Mr. Dayett grew up in Connecticut and has a Little League award named after him.
The Score on Brian Dayett – 5.0
Brian has a signature that kind of looks like an old English style of writing. I don’t mean the calligraphy style of writing, but more of what I feel like you see during like a Victorian era. It’s no neat or anything. The “B” and the “D” have are loopy, yet angled at the same time. The rest of his autograph is pretty standard cursive.
He added “Good Luck” and “Best Always” to the cards, but usually when you see that someone will also personalize it with your name. It looks a bit awkward without that. It’s OK overall. I think that the marker is a bit thin and but also not very crisp. That definitely takes away from the strength of the autograph a bit. A stronger marker could cut through the background a bit.
All-in-all it’s a good one. Thanks Mr. Dayett! I’m giving these a 5.
