The Story of the Autograph
Mike Birkbeck is a former right-handed starting pitcher in the major leagues. He played during six seasons from 1986 to 1995 for the Milwaukee Brewers and New York Mets. He also played in Japan with the Yokohama BayStars.
Birkbeck was born and raised in Ohio. He played baseball in college at the University of Akron and was the Ohio Valley Conference Baseball Player of the Year. He was first drafted by the Cubs in the eleventh round of the 1982 MLB Draft but didn’t sign. A year later he was chosen by the Brewers in the fourth round and signed with them. He made his major league debut three years later on August 17, 1986.
He got a few starts in his first couple years, each one building to the next and then got his main shot in 1988. He appeared in 23 games that year and put up a 10-8 record and 4.72 ERA. Unfortunately that was the high point of his career.
He played the next year for the Brewers and then starting moving around. While he signed with the Indians, Mets, and Braves, he only ever saw starts in the major with the Mets. After his time in the major leagues he went on to play in Japan. The days he coaches baseball at the college level.
The Score on Mike Birkbeck – 7.0
Mike has a signature that almost looks like a condensed wave to me. Like as if you were sort of drawing a wave. It came out really well on these cards and sticks out really well. I did take a little bit off on some because the marker looked a bit week in places.
Thanks Mr. Birkbeck! I’m giving this return a 7.
