The Story of the Autograph
Charles Hudson is a former pitcher in the major leagues. He played from 1983 to 1989 with the Philadelphia Phillies, New York Yankees, and Detroit Tigers.
Hudson is a native of Texas. He went to South Oak Cliff High School near Dallas and then went on to attend Prairie View A&M University in Prairie View, Texas. The Phillies drafted him in the twelfth round of the 1981 MLB Draft. He made his major league debut for them on May 31, 1983.
He started his career as a starter and pitched to an 8-8 record with a 3.35 ERA in his first season. He even started two games in the World Series for the Phillies that year, unfortunately both losses. But in four years with the Phillies that .500 record in his first season was never bettered and he ended up with a 32-42 record and 3.98 ERA in his time in Philadelphia.
In December of 1986 the Phillies traded Hudson to the Yankees in a deal that also involved Mike Easler. He fared much better for the Yankees and put up his first winning record in 1987 with the Yankees, 11-7 with a 3.61 ERA in 35 games, 16 of them starts. He would later be traded to the Detroit Tigers prior to the 1989 season.
In August of 1989 he was in an accident while driving drunk and broke his leg and needed knee surgery. That wasn’t the very end of his career as he was invited to Spring Training in 1995 with the Cubs, but he never made it back to the majors again.

Charles has a good-sized stacked signature on these cards. The 1988 Topps card came out a lot better only because you can see the signature a bit better. I sent him a couple of doubles so he might be a guy that avoids signing doubles of cards. I would like to try to find a Phillies card of his to get signed next time I try him.
