The Story of the Autograph

Rudy Meoli is a former shortstop in the major leagues. He played from 1971 to 1979 with the California Angels, Chicago Cubs, and Philadelphia Phillies.

Meoli was born in New York and raised in California. He was drafted by the Angels in the fourth round of the 1969 MLB Draft. He made his debut just two seasons later as a September call-up on September 9, 1971. He only played seven games and three plate appearances that first season and would be back in the the majors until the 1973 season.

The ’73 season would be his best shot in the majors. He played 120 games, hit the only two homers of his career, had 23 RBI and a .223 average. He spent two more seasons with the Angels before being traded to the Padres  in 1975 as the player to be named later for Gary Ross. From there the Padres traded him to the Reds for Merv Rettenmund and then the Cubs purchased his contract from the Reds. He was out of the majors for two seasons during all that moving.

Even though he finished in the majors with the Cubs and then the Phillies, he stuck around the mins with a couple teams through the 1980 season before his called it quits.

The Score on Rudy Meoli – 6.0

Rudy has a pretty standard signature. I think the signature on the 1974 card is best because that cards give the signature the best chance to be seen. Not that the 1978 card is bad, it just got a few more dark spots that hide parts of it a bit.

Thanks Mr. Meoli! I’m giving this return a 6.
