The Story of the Autograph

Troy Tulowitzki is a former shortstop in the major leagues. He played in thirteen seasons from 2006 to 2019 primarily for the Colorado Rockies, but also for the Toronto Blue Jays and New York Yankees.

Tulowitzki is a native of California. He played baseball and basketball in high school and while he was All-State he was also a three-time MVP. After high school he attended Cal State Long Beach. He had an amazing college career there for three years before being drafted with the seventh overall pick of the 2005 MLB Draft by the Rockies. Tulo didn’t waste much time in the minors and debuted the next year on August 20, 2006.

In his first full season he played 155 games and hit .291 with 24 homers and 99 RBI. Unfortunately that wasn’t good enough to beat out Ryan Braun for Rookie of the Year honors and Tulowitzki would finish second. He went on to earn five All-Star appearances, two Gold Gloves, and two Silver Sluggers in Colorado. He had some amazing seasons with three consecutive seasons of 6-plus WAR from 2009 to 2011 and six of his ten season as a Rockie over 5 WAR. He also helped the Rockies to the World Series in 2007 but they fell to the Red Sox.

Tulowitzki was traded in 2015 to the Blue Jays in a blockbuster deal that had the two teams trading shortstops with Jose Reyes headed back to Colorado. Unfortunately injuries started catching up with him and he missed the entire 2018 season. The Blue Jays released him with two year remaining on his contract. The Yankees picked him up for the 2019 season to replace the injured Didi Gregorius. He only played five games before going on the injured list and retiring in July of 2019.

These days Tulowitzki works as a coach for the Texas Longhorns.

I had tried for Troy’s autograph a couple times before this one came back so I was pretty psyched to get it. I always wondered with other people getting it back if I ever would. The odd part is that I really didn’t have a lot of doubles of his cards surprisingly. I would have thought I did given they tend to put in more cards of stars these days.

Thanks Mr. Tulowitzki! I’m giving this return a 6.5 overall.
