The Story of the Autograph

Tim Pyznarski is a former first baseman in the major leagues. He only played during one season in the majors, 1986 and spent it with the San Diego Padres.

Pyznarski was born and raised in Chicago. He helped his high school team to a Class AA State Championship in 1978. He then went on to attend Eastern Illinois University. In 1981 he was drafted by the Oakland Athletics with the 15th overall pick in the first round of the MLB Draft. He wouldn’t make it to the majors with the A’s though and was traded to San Diego in April of 1985.

He played well in the minors including being named The Sporting New Minor League Player of the Year and Topps Minor League Player of the Year in 1986. That was the same year that he received his only playing time in the majors. The Padres brought him up for his debut as a September callup on September 14, 1986. He would appear in 15 games before the end of that season.

The Padres traded him after the season to complete a deal with the Brewers. Two years later the Brewers traded him to the Orioles and he would never appear in the majors beyond that short stint in San Diego.

Tim has a somewhat distinctive signature, but I don’t know if I’d go as far as saying I can read it. But for a guy who played only 15 games I’d say his signature outweighs his major league impact. These came out pretty good. My favorit is the 1987 Topps. Unfortunately Tim was traded before the year 1987 so I don’t know how he actually ended up on 1987 cards, let alone one that says Future Stars with his former team.

Thanks Mr. Pyznarski! I’m giving this return a 6.
