The Story of the Autograph

Steve Crawford is a former right-handed pitcher in the major leagues. He played from 1980 to 1991 with the Boston Red Sox and Kansas City Royals.

Crawford was born and raised in Oklahoma. He went to Northeastern State University and Rogers State University and was never drafted. Instead he was signed by the Red Sox as an amateur free agent in 1978. He would make his first appearance in the majors two years later on September 2, 1980.

He primarily worked as a relief pitcher, but he started as a starter in his first few years with Boston. But he was back and forth to the minors to start and then took a little bit different role when he got back to the majors in 1984. He would do just about anything role in relief including closing games if needed. He was part of the Red Sox postseason in 1986 and performed well in the ALCS but not so well in the World Series.

He was a free agent after 1987 he  signed with the Dodgers but never appear in the majors for them. The following season he was with the Royals and stuck with them until his last game on October 5, 1991.

I’m not sure if Steve is strictly two per, but he did keep three of my cards. Unfortunately the two he signed are not great when it comes to showing off an autograph. It’s a shame because his signature is a good size and look like it came out pretty well on both.

Thanks Mr. Crawford! I’m giving this return a 5.
