Randy Knorr played in the majors from 1991 through 2001. He played at the catcher position with the Blue Jays, Astros (twice), Marlins, Rangers, and Expos. He was mostly a backup catcher and in more recently years he’s been working as a major league and now minor league coach.

Knorr grew up in California and was drafted by the Blue Jays in the 10th round of the 1986 MLB Draft. Before making it to the majors with the Blue Jays he played in Australia during the summer of 1989-1990 with the Melbourne Monarchs and the Williamstown Wolves. In 1991 he appear in his first game with the Blue Jays on September 5.

As I said, he was a backup catcher and never appeared in more than 45 games in a season. He batted .226 and hit 24 home runs and drove in 88 RBI for his career. Before officially retiring, keeping with the international feel, he played with the Edmonton Trappers in July of 2004 and became a Canadian Citizen.  After than he coached and managed in the minors, including taking the Potomac Nationals to the Carolina League Championship in 2008. He was later promoted to the Bench coach of the Nationals for Davey Johnson and Matt Williams.

This year Randy managed the Syracuse Chiefs who are the Nationals Triple-A affiliate.

Randy has a pretty simple autograph. It’s just a few scribbles really. I think it might look really good on a ball. Sometimes a ball makes a really simple autograph look really good, maybe just because of the white space. It’s actually a bigger size than you think for essentially almost being initials. But he used a good marker and it came out well on this card.

Thanks, Mr. Knorr! This one gets a 5.5.
