The Story of the Autograph

Dion James is a former outfield in the major leagues. He played from 1983 though 1996 with the Brewers, Braves, Indians and Yankees.

James was born in Philadelphia, PA but went to high school out in California. He was selected 25th overall by the Brewers in the 1980 MLB Draft. He made his debut as a September call-up in 1983. In 1984 he was the Brewers best rookie and he won the centerfield job. He was traded to the Braves and with that change he changed his hitting approach as well and went from a slap hitter to finding a little more power. He had only had one career homer to that point and he suddenly had 10 for the 1987 season.

He was later traded to the Indians and then moved on to the Yankees. Between two stints with the Yankees he went to play a year in Japan but didn’t get much playing time, although he did get to the post season for the first time in his career.

James has some pretty good hitting seasons in his career. He had a career high .332 average in 1993 while playing 115 games with the Yankees. It was the third time he’d hit over .300 for the season. He also had three other season where he hit .287 or better. His best power and production numbers came in that 1987 when he posted 10 homers and 61 RBI.

This is my second successful return from James. To see the other, check out my post from July 2017.

The Score on Dion James – 6.0

I like Dion’s big “D” (ok, that was awkward) and big “J”. From there he makes some little scribbles and the two things go together well. The 1990 Fleer card is the one that I feel shows off his signature best of all these.

Thanks Mr. James! I’m giving this return a 6.
