The Story of the Autograph
Alex Gonzalez is a Venezuelan shortstop who played from 1998 through 2014. The majority of his career (1998-2005) he spent with the Marlins and after that he bounced around and spent time with the Red Sox (twice), Reds (twice), Blue Jays, Braves, Brewers, and Tigers. He was an All-Star with the Marlins in 1999 and while he just missed their first Championship, he did win a World Series with them in 2003.
Gonzalez’s career as a lot of highs and lows. He made an All-Star team in 1999, then would lead the league in errors in 2001. He would hit his career high in home runs, but also a career high in strikeouts in the same year (2004). His performance in the 2003 World Series against the Yankees wasn’t much different. He had gone 1-for-13 in the series until Game 4. In the 12th inning of that game he his a walk-off homer to give the Marlins the win and tie the Series at 2 game apiece. In Game 5 he contributed a game-tying double, then in Game 6 he had a beautiful slide to add a run and elude Jorge Posada’s tag.
After the Marlins he bounced around a lot as a free agent. He would go on waivers and one-year deals and then trades. But e would put up good enough numbers to play in over 100 games every year and be a good enough piece for a team to have around.

This is one of the most fun autographs I’ve received in a while. I’ve always seen others have success from him but I never really found his cards in my collection to send out. They were there, it just wasn’t something I ended up pulling out. I love all the little quirks in it like his “z”s and then the little kind of like horns I guess on his first name. He always seems to sign with a good marker and it just looks like he take care in his signature.
